Getting Enough Exercise This Spring

21 Mar 2022

Personal care in Telford is important all year round and getting plenty of exercise is one of the best ways to show yourself a bit of personal care. Most seasons of the year do not offer such an easy gateway into the wonderful world of getting out and about and exercising.

With spring just around the corner, you might be tempted to reignite your passion for exercise and personal well being. Temperatures are slowly rising and lighter mornings are creeping in. So why don’t you take advantage of the improving conditions and enact one of the most effective personal care treatments there is; exercise.

The winter can sometimes be considered too cold for outdoor spaces. On the other hand, the summer can be too warm and leave you hot and bothered if you try your hand outdoor exercise. The spring offers a unique middle ground. The weather is cool but not cold whilst not reaching some of the high temperatures.

Where To Start

There seems to be a common misconception that to exercise outdoors you need to run 10 kms  on a daily basis. Whilst no one is expecting you be the new Mo Farah during your first day; the fear of not being great at something straight away is one of the main reasons people do not start in the first place.

When it comes to starting your outdoor exercising career, it is advised to start off small. If you undertake too big of a task straight away, such as trying to run 10 kms in under an hour, you run the risk of injury. Accompanying this is the fact that it could ruin your running experience and might make you want to not continue.

Just a brisk 10 minute walk can burn as much as 50 calories on it’s own. Not only does this improve your physical fitness, it provides you with much needed fresh air.

Taking the Next Step

Once you have mastered the art of getting started, you can slowly start to push yourself. If you have managed to do a mile walk in less than half an hour; try to do it in less than 20 minutes.

Maybe you can then even graduate to a gradual jog from the leisurely stroll. Developing and training your body is essential to maximising your exercising efforts.

More Than Just Running

There is more exercise to do outside than just running. Some activities are actually quite fun and can soon become hobbies. Other types of exercise you can do outside include:

  • Cycling– a low impact exercise perfect for burning calories and body fat. This fun pastime can provide a significant upfront cost. This is due to the fact that most high quality outdoor bikes can be pricey. But rest assured, once you have a fully equipped bike ready to go, you will be off roading before you know it.
  • Hiking- this one might be problematic depending on where you are based. Living in a rural area might not offer an overabundance of hiking opportunities. If you do manage to vacate to a mountain or hill, you should give hiking a go.
  • Swimming– a sport that is perhaps more famous for being enjoyed indoors. There is no saying you can not enjoy this all round exercise outside.
  • Team Sports– playing team sports outside is a fantastic way to not just improve your physical health and general well being but also improve interpersonal relationships.
